Knowledge base & methodology
Everything we’ve learned while mapping the Pakistani passport — categories, sources, and how to read each visa route. Updated 8 June 2026.
How to read a visa status
- Visa-free — Walk in with just your passport (valid 6+ months) and onward travel. No paperwork before you fly.
- Visa on arrival — Get the visa at the airport/border. Carry the fee (cash), photos, return ticket and accommodation proof.
- eVisa / eTA — Apply online on the official government portal before travel; print the approval. Fastest of the “needs a visa” routes.
- Visa required — Apply in advance at an embassy, consulate or visa centre. Often biometrics, an interview, and the most documents.
The Pakistani passport, in short
It is one of the more restricted travel documents, so most destinations are visa required. The good news: a growing set of countries now offer eVisa/eTA that you can do entirely online, and a handful are visa-free or visa on arrival. Our directory sorts every country so you can plan around the easy wins first.
Document baseline (keep these ready)
- Passport valid 6+ months with blank pages
- Digital + printed passport photos, white background
- CNIC copy
- Bank statement (last 3–6 months) showing healthy funds
- Confirmed return flights and hotel bookings
- Cover letter / day-by-day itinerary
- Proof of employment or business; invitation letter if visiting family
Key learnings from research
- China waives the visa fee for Pakistani nationals (you still apply and pay the Gerry’s CVASC service charge). A widely-repeated “visa-free from Nov 2025” claim is not confirmed by any official Chinese source — treat it as unverified.
- Singapore does not let Pakistanis self-apply — you must go through an ICA-authorised agent or a local sponsor.
- Hong Kong is a separate visa from mainland China and is slow (4–6 weeks) — lodge it first.
- Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia are all online eVisas — the quickest wins for a Pakistani passport in the region.
- Malaysia also needs the free MDAC arrival card within 3 days of arrival, separate from the eVISA.
- Only ever use official government portals — many top search results are paid agents with look-alike domains.
