Step-by-step: how to apply
- Download forms ID 936 (applicant) and ID 936A (sponsor) from immd.gov.hk.
- Have a sponsor in Hong Kong (or use the applicant route) complete the sponsorship form.
- Mail the completed forms, passport copy, photos, flight + hotel bookings and proof of funds to the HK Immigration Department (or submit via a Chinese diplomatic mission).
- Wait 4–6 weeks; once approved, the entry visa label is sent to you — affix it in the passport before travel.

Important notes
- A mainland China visa does NOT cover Hong Kong — it is a separate application.
- This is the slowest of the six. If combining a trip, lodge the HK application first.
- Diplomatic/official passport holders get 30 days visa-free — not applicable to ordinary passports.
